Traceability is the property that lets a researcher tie the vial in hand back to the exact batch that was synthesized and tested. Without it, a certificate of analysis is just a document floating free of the material it claims to describe.
One lot, one record
Each released lot binds to exactly one certificate of analysis. The lot number printed on the vial label must match the lot number on the COA and the lot recorded in the catalog. If any of the three disagree, the documentation cannot be trusted to describe the material you received.
What the QR code does
Every vial label carries a QR code that deep-links to the public verification page for that lot. Scan it and you reach a structured record: product identity, lot number, test date, issuing laboratory, analytical methods, the signed report, the chromatogram, and a buyer-facing status. The code encodes the verification URL directly, so it resolves the same way from any device.
Status without ambiguity
Internal batch states are mapped to a small set of buyer-facing labels — Released, Pending release, Quarantined, Expired, or Withdrawn. A researcher never has to interpret raw operational states; the verification record shows only the mapped status, and only released lots are offered for purchase.
Append-only history
Corrections to a lot's analytical record are published as new versions rather than silent edits, and every lifecycle transition is written to an append-only audit trail. That history is what makes a claim of traceability auditable rather than merely asserted.
Verify before you trust
